Old Uplawmoor
Historic Uplawmoor, associated for centuries with the Barony of Caldwell and the Mure family, is still a vibrant community today, although now bereft of many of the services once to be found there. The pictures in this book highlight the village's railway history (it once had two stations) and illustrate one of the buses that used to serve it. Farming has always been of great importance locally, and there are photographs of haymaking, a ploughman and his horses, a milkmaid with an Ayrshire cow, and numerous local farms. Members of the community generously lent photographs for the book, and many local families are featured, with individuals named wherever possible. There are also pictures of Miss Allan, donor of the Glen, Jean Dale's shop, the Mure Hall, Uplawmoor Hotel, curling on Loch Libo, the golf and tennis clubs and the local Home Guard.
