Old Newmains and the villages around Wishaw
This book tells the story of the villages that grew up around Wishaw (of which Newmains was the biggest), and contains a mixture of peaceful-looking village scenes and pictures of heavy industry. Many of the villages had rural beginnings, but became industrialised from the mid-nineteenth century onwards when nearby coal reserves were mined commercially, leading to a new source of employment. Cleland, Bellside, Cambusnethan, Newmains, Morningside, Bonkle, Allanton, Waterloo and Overtown are featured.
