Old Lesmahagow
The blacksmith's shop, a travelling fair pitched near the gasworks, the opening of the 'joy wheel' in the public park, and a 1920s soup kitchen are some of the things featured by Tom Affleck in his book. There's a view of Milton Quarry, and pictures of horse-ploughing, haymaking, and a group of local fruit pickers. The bowling club, quoiting team, a group of cyclists astride penny-farthings and a five-a-side football team recall some of the village's leisure pursuits, while shops, streets and Robert Park's garage complete the picture of early twentieth century life in Lesmahagow.
