This key should enable beginners to identify living animals encountered during the course of field studies. Behavioural characters are given particular emphasis, but full morphological descriptions are also included. Characters which require considerable expertise, or expensive equipment, have been avoided. The key covers the invertebrates found in all types of freshwater pools, lakes, streams and rivers.
