Artikelname: Army Panzer Uniforms in Colour Photographs
Artikelbeschreibung: The uniforms of the German tank troops - Panzertruppe - were probably the most dramatic of any worn by World War 11 combat units. As these Panzer Divisions spearheaded Germany's victorious advances in the early years of the war, so the appearance of the black-clad tank crews became one of the enduring images of the new Blitzkrieg warfare. Today, 60 years after they were last worn in action, accurate references for the dress, insignia and personal equipment of these armoured vehicle crews are particularly sought-after by modellers and collectors. Surviving examples of these uniforms are rare, and command high prices when they come to the market. In this book the experienced Australian collector, photographer and writer WADE KRAWCZYK presents clear, close-up colour photographs of a remarkable range of varying patterns of original Panzer headgear, uniforms and insignia, with detailed explanatory text. The collection is completed by examples of Panzer-related documents, war-time portraits and other ephemera.

Such details are essential for an understanding of how cavalry fought in the 19th and early 20th centuries, since the design of equipment was intimately connected with cavalry tactics in any particular period. Students of campaign history, and particularly modellers, will find here a mass of specific information, illustrated with photographs, diagrams, drawings and full colour plates.

These Orders have existed since the early Middle Ages and were initially intended to unite important noblemen in bonds of loyalty to their monarch or to act as impressive rewards for their services. The insignia worn by the various ranks within the Orders are often of the highest quality and exquisite workmanship and, like campaign medals and decorations, have become a popular field for collecting and research.
Artikelname: British Web Equipment
Artikelbeschreibung: The outbreak of World War 1 in 1914 found the British Army - like those of the other combatant nations - unready in many respects for a new age of warfare. However, the British led the world in the personal equipment worn by the infantryman: the belts, pouches and packs that enabled the 'Tommy' to carry on the battlefield his ammunition, rations, and other necessities such as a water bottle and entrenching tooL This was due to the inventiveness of an American officer named Anson Mills, and the skills and energy of the company created to produce his designs, including the 1908 equipment set, made in woven cotton web. In the years that followed, the breakneck pace of military innovation rapidly increased the soldier's burdens and left the designers off his 'webbing' struggling to catch up. By the outbreak of World War 11 the British infantry had new 1937 pattern equipment, whose design reflected a new generation of weapons and tactics. This in its turn proved unequal to the special demands of war in the jungles of the Far East, so 1944 saw yet another set of kit, again designed on the latest scientific principles. In this book the author/ photographer offers for collectors and students of militaria - for the first time, and in full colour - a detailed review of these infantry equipments, which spanned the British soldier's combat experience throughout the first half of the 20th century and beyond.

Artikelname: Counterfeiting the Holocaust:A Historical and Archival Examination of Holocaust Artifacts
Artikelbeschreibung: The collecting of Holocaust artifacts can often result in an emotional and historical dilemma. Survivors and some militaria collectors regard these items as "stained" with the blood of Holocaust victims, and therefore should not be bought and sold. However, to honor the memory of those who perished and to keep a proper historical record, these items must be preserved. While a small contingent of collectors deal in Holocaust artifacts, the vast majority of Holocaust-oriented artifacts are purchased by individuals who intend to donate these items to museums. This book is a reference and resource guide to help determine the authenticity of these artifacts, and provides a detailed look at various Holocaust-related artifacts in a manner that follows the experiences of the survivors and victims. As an example; the Germans identified some individuals with outward markings, forced them to register, pressed them into forced labor, ghettoized, and eventually deported them to concentration camps or labor facilities, and due to the different times that these activities took place in conquered and occupied countries, they are distinguished here by the action rather than by a general timeline (for example, Jews in occupied Poland were forced to wear "Jewish badges" in 1939, while this did not occur in Germany until 1941). The Holocaust is a difficult period of history to examine, and although some of the photographs contained in this book are horrific in nature, this book in no way trivializes the magnitude of the Holocaust by discussing the collection and identification of Holocaust-related artifacts. The issue at hand is the callous disregard by those who profit from the Holocaust by manufacturing and selling counterfeit and fake items. Alec Tulkoff has been a collector of World War II militaria for the past twenty-five years. Over the past seven years he has taken an interest in Holocaust history and artifacts. During the past two years, while working at the SHOAH Visual History Foundation as a cataloguer, he compiled the information and materials contained in this book. As a cataloguer in the Foundation, he had the opportunity to hear hundreds of first hand Holocaust survivor testimonies. Tulkoff has worked hard in combating the vast amount of Holocaust artifact fraud that has spread in the collecting community and has posted a website dealing with this fraud and also publishes a quarterly newsletter on this topic.

Artikelname: German Combat Equipments 1939–45
Artikelbeschreibung: The field equipment of the German Army in World War II was closely related to that used throughout World War I and earlier, yet it was of relatively light weight, ruggedly constructed, well designed, functional, and generally of a high quality, though this deteriorated in the later war years. A high degree of design standardisation was maintained in most categories of equipment, though materials and their colours often varied widely. There were also many different specialisations for the various arms of service as well as theatres of combat, such as the Afrikakorps in the Western Desert. This title investigates all manner of German combat equipments throughout World War II, from belt buckles to magazine pouches.

Artikelname: German WW2 Medals & Political Awards: The Satellite States
Artikelbeschreibung: There were few regimes in the history of mankind more prone to the manufacture of medals and awards than Hitler's Germany. Apart from the various grades of medal awarded for combat, there were also numerous awards made for length of party membership, for the number of children produced, for the fire and police services, and so on. Whilst there was, in many parts of Europe, considerable resistance both during and after the German invasions, there were many organisations - such as the Rexists in Belgium - which were pro Nazi and found themselves assimilated within the Nazi structure. For the ensuing satellite states formed during Nazi occupation, it was inevitable that new medals and political awards would be created. In his second book for lan Allan Publishing, noted collector and expert on Third Reich militaria, Chris Ailsby, examines in depth the great variety of the medals and political awards developed for these satellite states. Providing a history of each medal and award, as well as illustrations showing both front and reverse, the book is a detailed'account of these medals and awards. Where appropriate, information is also given on the most well-known recipients of the major awards, thus helping to make the book an essential work of reference for all collectors of Third Reich militaria.

Artikelname: Imperial German Field Uniforms and Equipment 1907-1918 VOL 1 ONLY
Artikelbeschreibung: This two volume set provides the reader with an insight into the wide range of uniforms, weapons and field equipment used by the Imperial German Army during the First World War. The devastating and dramatic character of the war required many innovations in military clothing and equipment. New uniforms and adequate protection was a must and steel helmets appeared on the battlefield, replacing the outdated spiked helmets. Even medieval looking items, like steel breastplates and trench clubs, were produced, giving the soldiers a fearful appearance. The threat of poison gas caused the immediate development of gas masks. It was also the time of the tank, observation balloons, mine warfare, the Zeppelin, airplanes, flame throwers, deadly machine guns, and other war machinery that saw service, sometimes for the first time. Using over 1,000 colour and period photographs from private collections and museums, the author succeeds in showing a broad range of artifacts, together with full and to the point descriptions. This series is aimed towards the novice or advanced German World War I collector and enthusiast, military history student, modeller, researcher and re enactor.
This book is only vol 1 of a two volume set and covers;Field Equipment, Optical Instruments, Body Armor, Mine and Chemical Warfare, Communications Equipment, Weapons, Cloth Headgear.

Also discussed are the Imperial German Army's organization, service, and recruiting of the period from all of the Kingdoms, Grand Dukedoms and Princedoms, as well as the Hanseatic Free States. This book is an important source on Imperial headdress for collectors, dealers, historians, auctioneers and restorers.
Artikelname: In the Service of the Kaiser
Artikelbeschreibung: Military artists tend to paint the two extremes of the soldiers life; at one end the subject is rendered in his parade best uniform, pressed and spotlessly clean, and at the other extreme locked in heroic combat defeating his enemy. Friedrich Ludwig Scharf took the middle road, painting the troops as they looked going about their daily duties. Scharf, on one hand an artist, had also been a career Jger enlisted man, rising to the rank of Offizierstellvertrater in 1918. He spent most of his wartime service on the Eastern front where he observed and fought with the Cavalry regiments, as well as the Reserve and Landsturm troops assigned to that front. In his paintings the uniform historian and military modeler will find accurate and sometimes amusing representations of what Scharf actually saw. The ill-equipped Landsturmers with outdated uniforms, the Cavalry still mounted dashing about the Russian front, Flamethrower troops, ski troops and even a Franciscan monk in military service were captured in his watercolors and linoleum block hand-colored prints. This book is a must for the serious student of the uniforms of the German forces from 1910-1939, portrayed in the unique style of Friedrich Ludwig Scharf, 1884-1965.
Artikelname: Kaiser's Army in Colour: Uniforms of the Imperial German Army as Illustrated by Carl Becker
Artikelbeschreibung: During the period 1890-1910 the German Army of Kaiser Wilhelm II was ablaze in color, particularly the Garde and Cavalry regiments. In this superb new volume the author brings to the student of uniforms, as well as the art and military historian, the true glory of this brief, but most colorful time. Carl Becker was a skillful and talented artist of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, whose treatment of German uniforms, the military pomp and ceremony, as well as the work-a-day activities of the Kaiser's army, are both realistically and artistically among the very best. The 104 never before published uniform plates are a treasure trove of color, action, and rarity which have only been viewed by a select few before this publication. The additional illustrations from books and the postcard art reproduced here well display the scope and depth of Becker's work. Technically correct, and artistically rendered on the subject of Kaiser Wilhelm II's flamboyant army of 1890-1910, this book will be a welcome addition to the library of the collector, the student of military costume, modelers and the appreciator of well executed military art.

Artikelname: Napoleon's Imperial Guard
Artikelbeschreibung: The ever-fascinating Napoleonic period is well represented in the hobby of historical "reenactment"; and groups of knowledgeable enthusiasts in many European countries have been formed to recreate the uniforms and equipment, and to practice the drill and tactics, of these colourful armies. Perhaps the most legendary of all the Emperor's troops were the regiments of his Imperial Guard picked veterans of his greatest victories, and the cream of the later conscripts. Enjoying elite status and many privileges, they provided Napoleon's bodyguards and his ultimate battlefield reserve: and when the Guard was finally driven back on the evening ofWaterloo, the world knew that the Empire was finished. In this dazzling selection of nearly 200 new colour photos the best re-enactment groups in Europe recreate the splendid uniforms of these immortal troops: Foot Grenadiers and Chasseurs, Fusilier-Grenadiers, Polish and Dutch Lancers, Mounted Chasseurs and Grenadiers, and Foot Artillery. Completing the series established by "Napoleon's Line Cavalry" and "Napoleon's Line Infantry & Artillery", Stephen Maughan offers superb reference for modellers, war-gamers, collectors and illustrators, and a visual feast for all military history enthusiasts.

Artikelname: Postal Propaganda of the Third Reich
Artikelbeschreibung: Nearly sixty years after the end of World War II the Third Reich continues to fascinate both authors and readers. Nazi propaganda, in particular, has been the topic of countless books, as have the personalities involved in the German propaganda machine. Yet, despite all of the efforts in this regard, one aspect of that propaganda study has remained largely unexamined. It is the regime's use of postal materials as a tool for expressing its propaganda message. In this new, profusely illustrated book, Albert L. Moore offers readers an overview of the images and messages that filled the mailboxes of Hitler's subjects and victims. As official documents of Nazi Germany, the stamps, postcards, and even postmarks used during the time provide the reader with an explicit picture of the types of propaganda messages every German was expected to see and act upon on a daily basis. Moore's groundbreaking work helps us to better understand this powerful, yet heretofore unrecognized, weapon in Hitler's propaganda arsenal. This is not merely a book for those interested in stamps or postcards as collectibles, it is a book for those who desire to better understand what it was like to live inside the Third Reich
Artikelname: Queen Victoria's Army in Colour: The British Military Paintings of Orlando Norie
Artikelbeschreibung: Orlando Norie is considered to have been one of the foremost illustrators of the British army in the 19th century, with thousands of watercolors to his credit in public and private collections. The Anne S.K. The pictures in the Brown military collection range from single figure uniform studies or composites, to genre and battle scenes and at least one named portrait. These are published as a group for the first time along with Michel Tomasek's masterful account of Norie's life, including comments on the artist's British pictures by Peter Harrington.

Artikelname: The Ackermann Military Prints: Uniforms of the British and Indian Armies, 1840-1855
Artikelbeschreibung: For many years the magnificent colour prints published by the firm of Rudolf Ackermann during the 19th century have been in the possession of lucky collectors. However, with the passing of many years these frail works of art have become damaged, or have perished, so that many are not available to those who wish to find and appreciate the work and care which went into these productions. Although there were no European wars for the British troops during the years covered in this volume, there were still campaign opportunities throughout the widely spread Empire: the South African conflicts, the First Afghan War, the Scinde Campaign followed by the Sikh Wars, Punjabi Campaign, and the Crimean War. This book presents a period in British military uniform history which has not been well covered before, and allows an appreciation of these rare prints in beautiful colour.

Artikelname: The Allgemeine SS: A Collectors Guide
Artikelbeschreibung: This authoritative account of the history of the SS will be invaluable to anyone interested in collecting militaria. Robin Lumsden takes us through each of the uniforms worn by the various divisions and explains the significance of all the symbols and accessories from the obscure Totenkopfring der SS to the more familiar yet equally abhorrent flags and banners. By revealing the source of such accountrements as The Death's Head Ring the author unveils the roots of Nazi ideology, in this case pagan German mythology. This book goes on to take a closer look at the symbolism which inspired the SS battle hymn SS Wir Alle which includes the line - We all stand ready for battle, inspired by runes and death's head- "The 'rune' ", Lumsden tells us "derives from the Old Norse 'run' meaning 'secret script' ". The Hakenkreuz or swastika was originally a runic symbol it was the Germanic sign of Donner (or Thor),the god of adventures, being the main badge of the Nazi party it obviously, featured on SS uniforms and remains the symbol most closely associated with Nazis. Although obviously written for a particular market this book could appeal to anyone who is interested in the history of World War 2.

Artikelname: The Waffen-SS Vol 1
Artikelbeschreibung: Despite being disdained by the German Army’s professional officer corps, the military branch of the Nazi SS security organisation grew from an initial strength of only a handful of battalions at the outbreak of war in 1939 to hundreds of thousands of troops in dozens of divisions. The battlefield reputation of the premier armoured and mechanised divisions would become second to none; lavishly equipped and regarded as utterly reliable, they were thrown into many desperate battles on both Western and Eastern fronts, often achieving remarkable results. Illustrated with rare photographs, this first of four Men-at-Arms titles details the organisation, uniforms and insignia of the Waffen-SS
Artikelname: The Waffen-SS Vol 2
Artikelbeschreibung: The military branch of the Nazi SS security organisation grew by the end of World War II from a handful of poorly regarded infantry battalions in 1939, into a force of more than 30 divisions including units of every type. Their battlefield reputation varied widely, from the premier armoured divisions which formed Germany's utterly reliable spearheads on both main fronts, to low quality 'anti-partisan' units. The divisions covered in this second of four titles include the first mountain and cavalry units, and two of the remarkable new Panzer divisions raised in the great 1943 expansion. The mid-war divisions covered in this third title represent that range, from some of the most effective German and Western European volunteer formations – e.g. the 12. SS-Pz Div 'Hitlerjugend', and the Scandinavians and Dutchmen of the 11. 'Nordland' and 23. 'Nederland' divisions – to the Bosnian Muslims of the anti-partisan 13. 'Handschar' Division. Illustrated with rare photographs from private collections and meticulous colour artwork, the text details their organization, uniforms and insignia, and summarizes their battle records
Artikelname: The Waffen-SS Vol 4
Artikelbeschreibung: In 1944–45 the Waffen-SS formed many nominal 'divisions' from a motley range of sources, whose battlefield value was as varied as their backgrounds. The best were built around existing Western European volunteer regiments; some, raised from Central Europeans and Russians, were strong in numbers but weak in morale; some were of negligible size, scraped together from remnants and trainees; and some were sinister 'anti-partisan' gangs, assembled from the military dregs of the Eastern Front. Illustrated with rare photographs from private collections and meticulous colour artwork, this final title in our sequence details their organisation, uniforms and insignia, and summarises their battle records.

Artikelname: Trench Art: An Illustrated History
Artikelbeschreibung: Early in World War I, the French press published illustrations of objects made by the 'artisanat de tranchees' (craftsmen of the trenches). Translated into English as 'trench art', this label stuck and continues to be used to describe pieces created from spent war materials or from items of military equipment. Soldier and civilian artisans on both sides of the conflict in the 'War to End All Wars' recycled and transformed materials designed to kill other human beings into an amazingly creative and diverse body of folk art that has been largely ignored by art historians and museum curators until recently. Some World War I trench art pieces were made as personal war mementoes by the artisans who created them, but many were sold to soldiers to take or send home as souvenirs. After the war, civilians and ex-soldiers in war-torn France and Belgium established cottage workshops that produced large numbers of 'trench art' souvenirs for sale to post-war battlefield tourists. Although the major focus of this book is on Great War trench art, several chapters describe and illustrate soldier crafts from earlier and more recent wars to fit these objects into a centuries old tradition that continues to the present day.
THE ULTIMATE TRENCH ART COLLECTORS VOLUME !
Artikelname: Trench Art: Materialities and Memories of War
Artikelbeschreibung: Trench art is the evocative name given to a dazzling array of objects made from the waste of industrialized war. Each object, whether an engraved shell case, cigarette lighter or a pen made from shrapnel, tells a unique and moving story about its maker. For the first time, this book explores in-depth the history and cultural importance behind these ambiguous art forms. Not only do they symbolize human responses to the atrocities of war, but they also act as mediators between soldiers and civilians, individuals and industrial society, and, most importantly, between the living and the dead. Trench art resonates most obviously with the terror of endless bombardment, night raids, gas attacks and the bestial nature of trench life. It grew in popularity between 1919 and 1939 when the bereaved embarked on battlefield pilgrimages and returned with objects intended to keep alive the memory of loved ones. The term trench art is, however, misleading, as it does not simply refer to materials found in the trenches. It describes a diverse range of objects that have in some way emerged from the experience of war all over the world. Many distinctive objects, for example, were made during conflicts in Bosnia, Vietnam, Northern Ireland and Korea. Surprisingly, trench art predates World War I and it can be made in a number of earlier wars such as the Crimean War, the American Civil War, and the Boer War. Saunders looks at the broader issues of what is meant by trench art, what it was before the trenches and how it fits in with other art movements, as well as the specific materials used in making it. He suggests that it can be seen as a bridge between the nineteenth century certainties and the fragmented industrialized values and ideals of the modern world. This long overdue study offers an original and informative look at one of the most arresting forms of art. Spanning from 1800 to the present day, its analysis of art, human experience, and warfare will pave the way for new research and will be of great interest to cultural and military historians, anthropologists, art historians and collectors.

The brief chronicles and excerpts from first-person memoirs make the history of the German U-boats come alive in an impressive way, and documents the background of their existence. In the current edition, the newest source materials have been included, so that many hitherto unpublished emblems, coats of arms and markings are presented for the first time.
