There were few regimes in the history of mankind more prone to the manufacture of medals and awards than Hitler's Germany. Apart from the various grades of medal awarded for combat, there were also numerous awards made for length of party membership, for the number of children produced, for the fire and police services, and so on. Whilst there was, in many parts of Europe, considerable resistance both during and after the German invasions, there were many organisations - such as the Rexists in Belgium - which were pro Nazi and found themselves assimilated within the Nazi structure.
