Artikelname: Isle of Man...Inner Mann
Artikelbeschreibung: Inner Mann focuses on those rural parts of the Isle of Man away from the island's six main towns and resorts. Until the end of the Second World War, many of these villages still used centuries-old farming practices and the horse was the main source of motive power. Roads were often poor and this contributed to a sense of isolation, preserving a world in which many buildings were still thatched and day-to-day life had changed relatively little in a century. Many of these areas have now been encroached upon by urban sprawl, whilst elsewhere farmhouses have been sold off and luxury homes have sprung up in formerly rural locations. The 58 pictures in this selection reflect Inner Mann in the years when it supported a large but mostly poor agricultural community, before the countryside became a dormitory for today's more prosperous inhabitants. The following parishes are illustrated: Andreas, Arbory, Ballaugh, Braddan, Bride, German, Jurby, Lezayre, Lonan, Malew, Marown, Maughold, Michael, Onchan, Patrick, Rushen and Santon.

Artikelname: Isle of Man...Old Ramsey
Artikelbeschreibung: 53 excellent photographs illustrate every aspect of Ramsey's history in the first half of the twentieth century. A fish auction in front of the Union Hotel, fishing and cargo vessels in the harbour, the cafe at Fern Glen and the town's much-loved trams are some of the highlights, although there's much, much more. Anyone who's visited Ramsey will find familiar sights, along with many that are equally interesting, but much rarer, such as a picture of the Hindenberg airship flying over the town.

Artikelname: Isle of Man..Transport round the Isle of Man
Artikelbeschreibung: If you are familiar with our wheels around series of books then you will know what to expect here as this could easily have been called Wheels around the Isle of Man - the only difference is that this book is in a larger format and contains shipping too.Ken and Steven probably have the best collection of Isle of Man postcards and photographs extant and the photographs in this title can only be described as sumptuous. There are 18 or so pages on railways, about equally devoted to the Steam Railway, the Manx Railway & the Snaefell Mountain Railway. About twelve pages are devoted to tramways and similar, and aviation, civil and military, features on the next 20 pages ( incidentally, my dad flew my mum to the IOM during the war - they met at RAF Heathhall in Dumfries - so that's one copy of the book spoken for already) and this is followed by 30 pages of shipping. Included here are lifeboats, wrecks, coastal steamers, pleasure boats etc.etc. On to the road and we have fourteen pages of buses and 20 pages of car & carriage stuff, from early motor charabancs to motor racing. Last and definitely least (only kidding ) is motorcycle racing - as befits an island so steeped in same.If you are interested in the Isle of Man or some of the aforementioned transport themes, then you will want this book.

As well as comprehensive coverage of Ramsey, the following locations are featured: Glen Auldyn, Elfin Glen, Port Lewaigue, Port-e-Vullen, Maughold, Port Mooar, Ballajora, Ballaglass Glen, Dhoon Glen, Ballaugh, Sulby, Andreas and Bride. This is a very comprehensive selection of pictures, with a strong emphasis on social history themes.

Artikelname: The Isle of Man A Postcard Tour Volume Three - The South
Artikelbeschreibung: Sailing ships in Castletown harbour, the Castle Rushen prison, Ronaldsway Aerodrome and the rather gruesome sight of a beached whale at Langness are some of the pictures featured in the pages of this book. Along with them are views of Ballasalla, Rushen Abbey, Santon, Ballabeg, Colby and Kentraugh.
