Artikelname: Around Nailsworth & Minchinhampton
Artikelbeschreibung: E.P. Conway (1874-1946) was born on the Welsh Borders and moved to Nailsworth around 1905. For the next two decades, with. his camera over his shoulder and only a bicycle for transport, he photographed widely in and around Nailsworth, Minchinhampton and nearby villages. Conway's studio was a wooden hut in a garden in Nailsworth. From this base he normally planned his photographic trips, but also ran a thriving portrait business and, together with his sister Annette, gave drawing and painting lessons. From 1905 to 1923 Conway had a virtual monopoly of commercial photography in Nailsworth and parts of the surrounding district. Portrait workapart, he specialised in recording street and church parades the social history of his chosen landscape, where one can glimpse the secure tranquility of Edwardian England. Unwittingly, perhaps, Conway recorded the dying days of a way of life.
