There's extensive coverage of those parts of the city centre that lie alongside the river, with a huge variety of pictures covering the streets, shops, personalities and ships that characterised the Tyneside of the past. Extensive captions shed light on the illustrations, and also provide general information about life in Britain at the time they were taken.
