A Shepherds Delight; memories of a downland shepherd

Larry Skeats is one of the last of the traditional shepherds. For 45 years, and in all weathers, he folded the flocks in his care over the Dorset downland, using only his dogs and wattle hurdles; and at lambing time his home became a shepherd's hut. These were farming's golden years, when the great autumn sheep fairs still brought their own special character to the local market towns.A Shepherd's Delight is both a celebration of a vanishing way of life, and a modest and often amusing self-portrait of someone whose appetite for life remains undimmed.Today, Larry Skeats is well-known as the landlord of the Trooper Inn, one of the Blackmore Vale's most popular pubs.
