Cumbria..Old Kirkby Lonsdale and the Rainbow Parish
This collection of photographs illustrates many aspects of Kirkby Lonsdale's past, along with the neighbouring communities of Barbon, Casterton, Hutton Roof, Lupton and Mansergh. The busy streets of Kirkby, with its bustling markets and fairs, contrast with life on the area's big estates, many of whose mansions have since been demolished or radically altered. Underley Hall, Lunefield, The Biggins, Barbon Manor and Rigmaden Park are all included, while elsewhere the village schools at Mansergh and Lupton are featured, along with scenes of local industry at Hutton Roof quarries and Bainsbank Farm. The majority of pictures feature Kirkby Lonsdale itself, and dozens of well-known local faces appear between the book's pages, with names included wherever possible.
