Look Back at Old Bedwas and Trethomas

Bedwas and Trethomas are typical of numerous Welsh communities set in Glamorganshire that were once no more than rural and untroubled territories. Then from the middle of the 19th century, for a period that was to last for more than a hundred years, 'King Coal' was to transform and dominate the area for generations thereafter. Whilst this brought economic benefits for many inhabitants, it also brought one of the most bitter disputes in the whole of the mining industry during the 1930s. 'King Coal's' reign ended in the 1980s but nevertheless, left behind it, a very proud people, still closely-knit and still surviving with the help of newer and lighter industries. This book contains a collection of more than 200 detailed photographs that illustrate an engaging past that will be of great interest to observers of all groups and ages.
