Together with its sister industry in the colliery sector, the development of the brickworks throughout the Flintshire and Denbighshire of the Victorian era formed the commercial foundations upon which the district's modern-day prosperities have subsequently been founded. Very few people today know just how extensive the Brick and Terracotta Works became during this period; creating some of the most prestigious and successful clayware manufactories to be found anywhere within the British Isles. But the history of the brickworks is also one of the men who toiled at the kilns and in the clayholes , and their story is as colourful as any other of the period. Using newspaper stories and documents from those times, this book brings to life part of their story and as much attempts to entertain as well as to educate. The Victorian era witnessed the brickworks heydays, and this book therefore concentrates primarily upon those times, but also investigates the history of the Industry's decline and eventual demise in the 20th century.
