Old Montrose _1
Montrose was once a centre for shipping and shipbuilding, and in the late nineteenth century tobacco imports were a major source of revenue. Tom Valentine's book includes a picture of women preparing kippers at Ferryden, and other views of local fishermen and children in this adjoining fishing village. A lifeboat parade, regatta and launching of a new ship continue the maritime theme, but there are also pictures of the boating pond, golf course, local football team and children paddling on the beach. Industry gets a look-in with Paton's Mill, the Montrose Brick and Tile Works and Craigo Mill. There are several railway photographs, and two shots of aircraft from the Royal Flying Corps Aerodrome.
