Old Peebles

One of the most dramatic events to occur in Peebles over the last century was the burning down of the magnificent Hydropathic Hotel in 1905. One photograph shows the original structure - eight storeys high in parts - while two others reveal the incredible aftermath of the fire. Elsewhere there are photographs of the station and viaduct over the Tweed before Peebles lost its railway link in the late 1960s. Other views show the town's tidy streets, shops and businesses as well as the golf course, football team and some local mansion houses. Three pictures of Stobo are included too.
