Old Johnstone and Elderslie

An excellent collection of 52 period views of these closely linked communities. The scenes include many long-lost sights which will still be remembered by many: the bandstand on Houstoun Square; the trams that ran to Paisley and Glasgow, and Elderslie tram depot; Thorn Public School, Wallace Public School and Johnstone High School; Elderslie Cottage Hospital; the mills of Finlayson Bousfield and Paton. There's even children paddling in the late-lamented public park pond and an unusual aerial view of Johnstone, taken not from a plane but a hot-air balloon!
