Wheels Around Inverclyde

This book contains a varied selection of photographs showing all the main forms of transport that were once to be found in and around the towns of Port Glasgow, Greenock, Gourock, Kilmacolm and Wemyss Bay. Horse-drawn trams at Ashton, a Port Glasgow Gas Department steam waggon, Greenock Co-op's fleet of Rolls Royce hearses, and lorries carrying ropes from Gourock Ropeworks are some of the subjects featured. The area's local bus companies are illustrated before they were swallowed up by big national concerns, and there are two pictures of steam trains passing through Kilmacolm station (now closed). Paddle wheels feature too, as do plenty of street scenes of the towns included, making this of interest to transport fans and Inverclyde locals alike.
